Product overview

Raloxifene 60 mg Hydrochloride Tablets

Raloxifene is raloxifene hydrochloride at 60 mg per tablet, sold in packs of 100 tablets for oral use. It is a selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM): it behaves like estrogen on bone, where it raises density, and it blocks estrogen in breast tissue. Medically it prevents and treats osteoporosis after menopause and lowers the risk of invasive breast cancer in high-risk postmenopausal women. It is a prescription medicine taken once a day with or without food. Other estrogen-control products on the shelf are Nolvadex, Clomid, Arimidex and Aromasin.

  • Raloxifene hydrochloride 60 mg per tablet, 100 tablets per pack
  • Selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM), prescription medicine
  • One tablet a day, with or without food
  • GMP-manufactured and HPLC-verified, COA on file per batch

How Raloxifene Works

Raloxifene binds the estrogen receptor and then behaves differently in different tissues. In bone it acts like estrogen and slows bone loss, which is why it is used for osteoporosis. In breast tissue it blocks estrogen, which is why it lowers the risk of estrogen-driven invasive breast cancer. It does not act like estrogen in the uterus, so it does not cause the spotting that some hormone treatments bring. It is not used before menopause.

Dosage & Administration

The labelled dose is 60 mg once a day, with or without food, at about the same time each day. The boxed warning is about blood clots: raloxifene raises the risk of a clot in the legs or lungs, so it is stopped three days before planned surgery and long periods of stillness are avoided. In women with coronary artery disease, the chance of a serious stroke may rise. Common effects are hot flashes, leg cramps, swollen hands and feet, flu-like feelings and joint pain.

Quality & Authenticity

Every batch is produced under GMP conditions and checked by third-party HPLC, with a Certificate of Analysis for the batch. Store the tablets at room temperature, away from excess heat and moisture, and not in the bathroom.

For laboratory research only. Prescription medicine: consult a healthcare professional before use.

With Surgery, Travel and Blood Clots

The label warns that raloxifene raises the risk of a clot in the legs or lungs. It is stopped three days before planned surgery, is not taken during long bed rest, and long spells of stillness are avoided.

Leg pain, warmth, swelling, chest pain, breathlessness or coughing up blood needs immediate care.

With Cholestyramine, Warfarin and Other Medicines

Cholestyramine is not taken with raloxifene, because it cuts how much of the drug is absorbed. Prothrombin time is monitored when raloxifene is started or stopped in anyone taking warfarin.

Raloxifene is more than 95 percent bound to plasma proteins, so other highly bound drugs such as diazepam, diazoxide and lidocaine are used with caution, as is the SERM Clomid discussed with a prescriber.

Prescription medicine. Compatibility notes above follow the FDA labeling for raloxifene and are not medical advice; consult a healthcare professional.

FAQ

Before you ask

Questions, answered

Raloxifene is a selective estrogen receptor modulator prescribed to prevent and treat osteoporosis in women who have been through menopause, and to lower the risk of invasive breast cancer in postmenopausal women who are at high risk or who have osteoporosis. It acts like estrogen on bone and blocks estrogen in breast tissue. It cannot treat invasive breast cancer that is already present, and it is not used in women who have not yet been through menopause.

The labelled dose is one 60 mg tablet once a day, with or without food, taken at about the same time each day. Treatment is continued even when the patient feels well, and it is not stopped without talking to the doctor. As with other medicines on a fixed daily schedule, a missed dose is taken when remembered, but a double dose is never used to catch up.

Common effects are hot flashes, which are more frequent in the first six months, leg cramps, swelling of the hands, feet, ankles or lower legs, a flu-like syndrome, joint pain, sweating and trouble falling or staying asleep. Serious effects are the ones named in the boxed warning about blood clots, so leg pain, warmth in the calf, sudden chest pain or shortness of breath needs emergency care rather than waiting.

Yes, and that is the main warning on the label. Raloxifene can raise the chance of a clot in the veins of the legs or in the lungs, and anyone who has had such a clot is usually told not to take it. It is stopped at least three days before a planned operation and is not taken during extended bed rest. On long trips, sitting still for hours is avoided. Call a doctor at once for calf pain, warmth, swelling, chest pain or breathlessness.

Cholestyramine is not recommended with raloxifene, because it reduces the absorption and the enterohepatic cycling of the drug. With warfarin, prothrombin time is monitored whenever raloxifene is started or stopped. Because raloxifene is more than 95 percent bound to plasma proteins, other highly protein-bound medicines such as diazepam, diazoxide and lidocaine are used with caution. Tell the prescriber about every medicine and supplement in use.

Yes. Raloxifene is listed here as 60 mg per tablet in packs of 100, and the page above shows the current price of 171.00 USD and the live availability. The U.S. domestic option is open on this listing and delivers in 2 to 5 days; the international button is currently disabled, so this product is a domestic order for now.
