Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide growth hormone secretagogue and a selective agonist at the ghrelin receptor, developed under the code NNC 26-0161. Its chain reads Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2, its formula is C38H49N9O5 and its mass is about 712 g/mol. It was described in 1998 as the first selective secretagogue because it raised growth hormone without raising ACTH or cortisol above GHRH-stimulated levels.

It binds the ghrelin receptor on pituitary cells and makes them release their own growth hormone in a pulse. The selectivity is the interesting part: in the original pharmacological work the compound did not release ACTH or cortisol at levels significantly different from those seen after growth hormone-releasing hormone stimulation, so the response stays closer to the growth axis than with the hexapeptide secretagogues.

Ipamorelin has no approved human use, so there is no label-based safety profile. Its cleaner selectivity means the ACTH and cortisol rise seen with GHRP-6 and hexarelin was not reproduced at the doses studied, but that is a pharmacological finding, not a safety guarantee. Injection-site reactions belong to the route, and any secretagogue can affect appetite. Treat it as an unstudied research material.

Both act on the ghrelin receptor, but ipamorelin is a pentapeptide and GHRP-6 is a hexapeptide, and the shorter, more selective molecule does not carry the same hormonal spillover. GHRP-6 is the met-enkephalin-derived secretagogue associated with a strong appetite signal and a modest prolactin, ACTH and cortisol rise, while ipamorelin was reported to leave those stress hormones at GHRH-stimulated levels. Its half-life is about two hours.
