Product overview
Zopiclone - Zopisign 10 mg Tablets
Zopiclone is a sedative-hypnotic of the Z-drug group, used as a short-term treatment for insomnia: difficulty falling asleep, waking up during the night, or waking too early when it affects everyday life. It is supplied here as Zopisign 10 mg tablets, 140 per pack. It starts working 30 to 60 minutes after it is taken. Treatment is deliberately short, because nightly use leads to tolerance. A related hypnotic is Eszopiclone, and a shorter-acting option is Zaleplon.

How Zopiclone Works
Zopiclone boosts the effect of GABA, the brain's main calming neurotransmitter, at the same receptor site used by benzodiazepines. That shortens the time to fall asleep and reduces waking during the night. Its effect adds to alcohol, opioids and other sedatives, and it can leave a person drowsy or less alert the next day. Herbal sleep support such as Tagara is sometimes used instead, but it is not a hypnotic and does not act the same way.
Dosage & Administration
Adults take 7.5 mg shortly before going to bed, and elderly patients start at the lower dose of 3.75 mg. Swallow the tablet whole with water, once a day, only when a full night's sleep is possible, and never more than one dose a night. Treatment usually lasts a few days to a few weeks, not normally beyond 4 weeks. If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next one the following night; do not double up. Do not stop suddenly, because it can cause agitation and anxiety; the dose is reduced gradually with medical advice. Do not drink alcohol while taking it, and do not drive or use machinery for 12 hours after a dose.

FAQ

Questions, answered
Zopiclone is used as a short-term treatment for insomnia in adults. It helps with falling asleep, waking during the night and waking too early, and doctors prescribe it when sleep problems are affecting everyday life. It is not intended for long-term nightly use.
Adults take 7.5 mg shortly before going to bed; elderly patients start at 3.75 mg. Swallow the tablet whole with water, once a day, only when there is time for a full night's sleep, and never more than one dose in the same night. Follow your doctor's instructions on dose and duration.
Common effects are a dry mouth, a bitter or metallic taste, and feeling tired, sleepy or dazed the next day. Serious effects are rare and include difficulty breathing, sleepwalking or doing things while not fully awake, allergic reactions, and mental health symptoms such as hallucinations, delusions, low mood or thoughts of self-harm. Do not drive for 12 hours after a dose.
Yes. Zopiclone adds to other medicines that make you sleepy: other sleeping tablets, medicines for anxiety, opioid painkillers, antipsychotics, antidepressants, epilepsy medicines and sedating antihistamines. Some antibiotics and antifungal medicines can also change its effect. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about everything you take.
No. Alcohol increases the sedative effect of zopiclone, which can cause breathing problems and make it very hard to wake up. Avoid alcohol for the whole time you are taking it, and do not take a second dose in the same night.
