Product overview
Zaleplon - Hyplon 10 mg Capsules
Zaleplon is a short-acting sedative-hypnotic for short-term insomnia, mainly where the problem is falling asleep rather than staying asleep. It is supplied as Hyplon 10 mg capsules, 100 per pack. It is absorbed and cleared quickly, with peak levels in about an hour and a half-life of roughly one hour, which is why it targets sleep onset. It is a controlled substance (Schedule IV) and is meant for short courses only. Other hypnotics used for insomnia are Zopiclone and Eszopiclone.

How Zaleplon Works
Zaleplon acts at the same GABA receptor site as benzodiazepines but is a different chemical class, one of the Z-drugs. It increases the calming effect of GABA and shortens the time taken to fall asleep; because it clears quickly, it has less effect later in the night. Short-term memory can be affected around an hour after the dose, and alertness can be reduced for a few hours. A rare but serious effect is doing things while not fully awake, such as sleepwalking or sleep-driving. Herbal support such as Tagara is not a substitute for a hypnotic.
Dosage & Administration
The usual adult dose is 10 mg immediately before going to bed, or 5 mg for people with low body weight, with a maximum of 20 mg a day. Swallow the capsule whole, only when at least four hours of sleep are possible before you need to be active, and never with alcohol or other sedatives. If you forget a dose, skip it; never take a second dose in the same night. Treatment is short term; stop and speak to a doctor if sleep problems continue. Melatonin-based products such as Melatonin work on the body clock instead.

FAQ
Before you ask
Questions, answered
Zaleplon is used for the short-term treatment of insomnia where the main difficulty is falling asleep. Because it is absorbed and cleared quickly, it shortens sleep onset without acting through the whole night. It is not intended for long-term nightly use, and it is a controlled medicine.
The usual adult dose is 10 mg immediately before going to bed, and 5 mg is used for people with low body weight. Do not exceed 20 mg in a day. Take it only when at least four hours of sleep are possible before you need to be active, swallow the capsule whole, and do not take a second dose in the same night.
Common effects include headache, dizziness, drowsiness and reduced alertness, and short-term memory can be affected around one hour after the dose. Rarely it can cause a serious reaction where the person does things while not fully awake, such as sleepwalking or sleep-driving. Stop taking it and contact a doctor if that happens, and do not drive until you know how it affects you.
Yes. Alcohol, opioids, benzodiazepines, tricyclic antidepressants and other medicines that depress the central nervous system add to its effects, and a lower dose of one or both may be needed. Medicines that change the liver enzymes processing zaleplon, including rifampicin and some antifungals, can also change how it works. Tell your doctor or pharmacist about everything you take.
Do not drink alcohol while taking zaleplon. Alcohol increases the depression of the nervous system, which makes drowsiness and loss of alertness worse and raises the risk of doing things while not fully awake. It also makes the next morning more difficult.
