Product overview
Cipmox - Amoxicillin 250mg and 500mg Capsules
Cipmox contains amoxicillin, a penicillin antibiotic supplied as 250 mg or 500 mg capsules in packs of 60. It is prescribed for bacterial infections of the chest, throat, ears, urinary tract and skin, and - with other medicines - for H. pylori stomach ulcers. It does not treat viruses, so it is never used for colds or flu. Where penicillins are unsuitable, a doctor may prescribe a macrolide such as azithromycin instead.

Variant Comparison
Both packs hold the same medicine, amoxicillin, and differ only in strength. Which you need is set by the infection's severity and the schedule your prescriber picks, not the brand: 250 mg to 500 mg three times a day, or 500 mg to 875 mg twice a day. The table compares the two.
| Variant | Dosage | Form and quantity | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cipmox 250 mg | 250 mg per capsule, 250-500 mg three times a day | Capsule, 60 capsules per pack | Milder chest, throat, ear and urinary infections |
| Cipmox 500 mg | 500 mg per capsule, 500-875 mg twice a day | Capsule, 60 capsules per pack | Severe infections or a twice-daily schedule |
The difference is how much amoxicillin each capsule delivers. A twice-daily schedule needs Cipmox 500 mg, since 500 mg to 875 mg per intake is the usual adult range, while three smaller intakes of 250 mg to 500 mg suit Cipmox 250 mg. Where beta-lactamase enzymes are a concern, amoxicillin and clavulanic acid is used instead, and for atypical or tick-borne infections a doctor may prefer doxycycline.
How Amoxicillin Works
Amoxicillin belongs to the aminopenicillin group inside the wider beta-lactam family. It binds to the proteins bacteria use to build their cell wall and blocks the final cross-linking step, so the wall weakens and the cell bursts as it divides. This is bactericidal - the bacteria are killed, not simply held in check. It is not stable against beta-lactamase enzymes, so enzyme-producing bacteria can survive unless an inhibitor is added.
Dosage & Administration
The usual adult dose is 250 mg to 500 mg three times a day, or 500 mg to 875 mg twice a day - 750 mg to 1750 mg in 24 hours. Capsules can be taken with or without food, and a meal can reduce stomach upset. Swallow them whole with water. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless the next dose is nearly due, and never take two doses at once. Complete the full course prescribed, even if you feel better after a few days. Follow your prescribing physician's instructions.

FAQ
Before you ask
Questions, answered
Amoxicillin treats bacterial infections of the chest and lungs, including pneumonia, and infections of the throat, ears, sinuses and dental abscesses. It is also used for urinary tract and skin infections, and with other medicines for stomach ulcers caused by H. pylori. It does not work on viral illnesses such as colds or flu.
The most common side effects are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and skin rash, seen in more than 1 in 100 patients. Around 1 in 10 people have an allergic reaction, usually a mild rash. Rare serious reactions include anaphylaxis and C. difficile diarrhea, which can start up to two months later. Get urgent help for facial swelling or trouble breathing.
Amoxicillin does not interact with alcohol in the way that metronidazole does, and official guidance does not require you to stop drinking during a course. Alcohol will not stop the antibiotic working, but it can make nausea, vomiting and diarrhea worse and slow your recovery. If you have liver disease, ask your doctor first.
Adults commonly take 250 mg to 500 mg every eight hours, or 500 mg to 875 mg every twelve hours - a total of 750 mg to 1750 mg per day. Capsules can be taken with or without food. Treatment usually lasts five to ten days. Complete the whole course and never double a dose for a missed one.
Amoxicillin is a penicillin and azithromycin is a macrolide, so they attack bacteria differently and cover different organisms. Amoxicillin is usually taken two or three times a day and is preferred for many throat, ear and dental infections, while azithromycin is taken once daily and is chosen when penicillins are unsuitable. Neither is stronger overall.
Yes. Probenecid raises amoxicillin blood levels and should not be combined with it. Amoxicillin can strengthen the effect of warfarin and other oral anticoagulants, so clotting may need monitoring, and allopurinol increases the risk of a rash. Methotrexate and other antibiotics can also interact. Tell your prescriber about every medicine and supplement you take.
Both strengths are stocked here as 60-capsule packs, and international shipping is available at checkout.
