LIV.52 is a polyherbal Ayurvedic formulation from Himalaya, used as liver support in long-term liver disease, fatty liver and loss of appetite. A single tablet combines eight herbal ingredients, led by caper bush (Capparis spinosa) and chicory (Cichorium intybus) at 65 mg each, with black nightshade, Arjuna and Mandur bhasma alongside three further herbs. It is supplied here in three forms: the standard tablets, the double-strength LIV.52 DS, and the liquid LIV.52 Drops. Bile-related liver conditions are treated differently, with a bile acid such as Ursodeoxycholic Acid.

Variant Comparison

All three variants carry the same eight herbs, so the difference is strength and form.

The standard tablet is taken twice a day; the DS tablet holds twice the amount per tablet, so one twice daily replaces two standard tablets. The drops are the same formulation in liquid form, measured rather than swallowed as a tablet, which suits children and anyone who cannot swallow tablets. Enzyme shortages are treated separately with Pancreatin.

How LIV.52 Works

LIV.52 is not a single molecule. Each ingredient brings its own plant constituents, and the formulation is studied as a whole: in published work it has been used as hepatoprotective support against liver injury from toxins, alcohol and some medicines, with effects described on liver enzymes and appetite. Indigestion on top of liver trouble is managed separately, for example with Omeprazole. It does not replace treatment for a diagnosed liver disease, and it is not the same as antiviral therapy for viral hepatitis.

Dosage & Administration

Adults usually take 1 to 2 LIV.52 tablets twice daily, or 1 LIV.52 DS tablet twice daily, after meals with water; the drops are measured as directed on the label. Published courses run about 12 weeks; longer use follows medical advice. Keep it away from children, tell your doctor about other medicines, and speak to a doctor before use in pregnancy or breastfeeding. Side effects are uncommon: in a study of LIV.52 DS, abdominal pain was reported by about 2.6% of participants and headache by about 1.7%, with no serious reactions attributed to the product.
