Product overview
Pancreatin Creon Capsules - 10000, 25000 and 40000 Lipase Units
Pancreatin, also called pancrelipase, is a porcine pancreatic extract given when the pancreas stops making enough enzymes to digest food - exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. It is standard treatment in chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer and after pancreatic surgery. Typical signs are oily or pale floating stools, wind, bloating and weight loss; nausea may need an antiemetic such as Domperidone, which does not correct the enzyme shortage.
- Three strengths: Creon 10000, Creon 25000 and Creon 40000
- Porcine pancreatin with lipase, amylase and protease
- Taken with every meal, dose titrated to the diet
- Prescription-only, 90 capsules per pack
Variant Comparison
All three variants hold the same enteric-coated minimicrospheres and differ only in how much pancreatin each capsule contains.
| Variant | Dosage | Form and quantity | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creon 10000 | 1-2 capsules per meal, 10,000 lipase units each | Capsule, 90 per pack | Starting and fine titration |
| Creon 25000 | 1-2 capsules per meal, 25,000 lipase units each | Capsule, 90 per pack | Usual adult strength |
| Creon 40000 | 1-2 capsules per meal, 40,000 lipase units each | Capsule, 90 per pack | High-fat meals, fewer capsules |
Creon 10000 delivers 10,000 lipase, 8,000 amylase and 600 protease units; Creon 25000 delivers 25,000, 18,000 and 1,000; Creon 40000 delivers 40,000, 25,000 and 1,600. Meals are dosed by fat content rather than a fixed capsule count, so adults commonly start on Creon 25000 and change to Creon 40000 when a meal needs over 100,000 lipase units, which cuts the number of capsules swallowed.
How Pancreatin Works
The capsule dissolves in the stomach and frees hundreds of minimicrospheres with an acid-resistant coating that opens above pH 5.5 in the small intestine, releasing lipase, amylase and protease to split fats, starches and proteins for absorption. Because enzymes work only alongside food, timing matters as much as dose. Herbal liver products such as LIV.52 are sold for similar complaints but have no enzyme activity, and pale stools with yellow eyes or dark urine point away from insufficiency towards blocked bile flow, sometimes treated with Ursodeoxycholic Acid.
Dosage & Administration
Take one or two capsules during or immediately after each meal and snack with plenty of water, then increase slowly according to response. Capsules may be swallowed whole, or opened and the granules stirred into acidic soft food or juice such as apple sauce and swallowed at once without chewing; crushing or chewing damages the coating and irritates the mouth. If stools stay fatty, clinicians check the dose against the fat eaten and the acidity in the gut, and a proton pump inhibitor such as Pantoprazole or Omeprazole is sometimes added. Never exceed 10,000 lipase units per kg per day.

FAQ
Before you ask
Questions, answered
Pancreatin treats exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, where the pancreas makes too little digestive enzyme. Causes include chronic pancreatitis, cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer and pancreatic or stomach surgery. Without replacement, fat is not absorbed: stools become oily, pale and floating, and patients lose weight and fat-soluble vitamins.
Swallow one or two capsules during or immediately after every meal and snack with plenty of water, so that the enzymes travel with the food. If swallowing is difficult, open the capsule and mix the granules with apple sauce or fruit juice, then take it without chewing. If you miss a dose, take your usual number with the next meal.
All three hold the same enteric-coated granules; the number shows the lipase units one capsule delivers. Creon 10000 suits small meals, children and fine tuning, Creon 25000 is the usual adult strength, and Creon 40000 is used for large high-fat meals and fewer capsules.
Abdominal pain is very common, while nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation and bloating are common; these often reflect the underlying disease as much as the medicine. Rash is uncommon, and itching, hives and allergic reactions including anaphylaxis are reported rarely. Very high doses have been linked to raised uric acid and to fibrosing colonopathy in cystic fibrosis.
No interaction between pancreatin and alcohol is documented, and no interaction studies have been performed. Alcohol is nonetheless a leading cause of chronic pancreatitis, so continuing to drink keeps damaging the pancreas and can worsen pain and malabsorption. Most clinicians advise cutting down sharply or stopping.
The manufacturer states that no interaction studies have been performed, so no formal interactions are listed. Response can still be poor when acid in the gut is not controlled, and acid-suppressing medicines such as Omeprazole or Pantoprazole are sometimes added. Tell your doctor about any antacid you take.
Yes, Creon 10000, Creon 25000 and Creon 40000 are listed here and international shipping is available at checkout. Pancreatin is a prescription-only medicine in most countries, including the UK and the US, so order only against a valid prescription from your doctor, who also sets the dose.
