Product overview
Domperidone 10 mg - Motilium and Vomistop Antiemetic Tablets
Domperidone is an anti-sickness medicine licensed only for nausea and vomiting in adults and adolescents of 12 and over weighing at least 35 kg. It is no longer approved for bloating, heartburn or reflux, which belong to acid-suppressing medicines such as Omeprazole. Supplied as Motilium 10 mg and Vomistop 10 mg, 100 tablets per pack.
- Two variants: Motilium 10 mg and Vomistop 10 mg
- 100 tablets per pack, one tablet up to three times a day
- Licensed for nausea and vomiting only, usually up to 7 days
- Prescription-only, not an over-the-counter remedy
Variant Comparison
Both variants carry the same active ingredient at the same strength, so this comparison is about brand and pack, not about effect.
| Variant | Dosage | Form and quantity | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Motilium 10 mg | One 10 mg tablet up to three times daily | Film-coated tablet, 100 per pack | Originator brand for short courses of nausea and vomiting |
| Vomistop 10 mg | One 10 mg tablet up to three times daily | Film-coated tablet, 100 per pack | Cipla brand of the same tablet, when Motilium is not to hand |
Both are 10 mg film-coated tablets in packs of 100, so the dose is identical and switching brand changes nothing. Motilium is Janssen's originator brand, Vomistop is Cipla's version of the same tablet, so the real choice is availability.
How Domperidone Works
Domperidone blocks dopamine D2 receptors in the stomach and gut wall and in the chemoreceptor trigger zone at the base of the brain, just outside the blood-brain barrier. That is why it settles nausea and helps the stomach empty with less drowsiness than metoclopramide, which enters the brain. Nausea is a symptom, not a diagnosis: sickness from a shortage of digestive enzymes needs replacement enzymes such as Pancreatin, and some liver conditions call for a bile-directed medicine such as Ursodeoxycholic Acid.
Dosage & Administration
Adults and adolescents of 12 and over weighing at least 35 kg take one 10 mg tablet up to three times a day, and never more than 30 mg in 24 hours. Stop and seek help for a fast or irregular heartbeat or uncontrolled movements. Domperidone is contraindicated in moderate to severe liver disease, in heart failure, and with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or QT-prolonging medicines. Where reflux drives the nausea, acid control with a proton pump inhibitor such as Pantoprazole is the mainstay, and domperidone covers only breakthrough spells.

FAQ
Before you ask
Questions, answered
Domperidone is licensed for nausea and vomiting in adults and adolescents of 12 and older weighing at least 35 kg, for short spells only. Since 2014 regulators have removed its other uses: it is no longer approved for bloating or heartburn, and it does not cure the cause of the sickness.
One 10 mg tablet up to three times a day, a maximum of 30 mg in 24 hours, with at least 8 hours between doses and ideally before a meal. Motilium 10 mg and Vomistop 10 mg are taken identically. If you forget a tablet, take it when you remember unless the next dose is nearly due.
The common one, affecting up to 1 in 10 people, is a dry mouth. Uncommon effects include headache, sleepiness, diarrhoea, rash, itch, anxiety and breast tenderness. The serious risks are heart rhythm problems, seizures and involuntary movements. Stop and get help for a fast or irregular heartbeat.
It is best to avoid alcohol during a course of domperidone. Alcohol can make the side effects worse, particularly sleepiness and an irregular heartbeat, and NHS guidance advises against it. There is no food to avoid, but take the tablets before meals.
Symptoms usually settle within 3 to 4 days, and treatment should not normally go beyond 7 days without a doctor reviewing it. Beyond a week, or above 30 mg a day, the chance of an irregular heartbeat rises. If nausea keeps returning, the cause needs investigating.
Yes, and some matter. It must not be combined with medicines that prolong the QT interval, such as amiodarone, or with strong CYP3A4 inhibitors, including ketoconazole, clarithromycin and erythromycin. Tell your doctor about antidepressants, antipsychotics, antibiotics, antifungal or HIV medicines before you start.
Both variants are stocked here as 100-tablet packs, Motilium 10 mg and Vomistop 10 mg, and international shipping is available at checkout. Domperidone is prescription-only in the UK and most of the EU, so check the rules where you live before ordering.
