Product overview
Isotretinoin - Isotroin 10 mg and 20 mg Capsules
Isotretinoin is a retinoid for severe nodular acne that has not improved with other treatment, including antibiotics such as Doxycycline. It slows production of the substances that drive acne, and a course usually runs four to five months, twice daily with meals. It is supplied as Isotroin 10 mg and 20 mg capsules, 30 per pack, by Cipla. It is the most effective acne treatment available and the most tightly controlled, because of the risk to an unborn baby.
- Two variants: Isotroin 10 mg and Isotroin 20 mg
- 30 capsules per pack
- Retinoid for severe nodular acne
- Not to be used in pregnancy
Variant Comparison
Both variants contain isotretinoin, so the difference is the strength and how the daily dose is built from it.
| Variant | Dosage | Form and quantity | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Isotroin 10 mg | One capsule twice daily with meals | Soft capsule, 10 mg | Lower weight, lower dose and step-down dosing |
| Isotroin 20 mg | One capsule twice daily with meals, as prescribed | Soft capsule, 20 mg | Higher weight and higher daily doses |
The dose is set by body weight and by how the skin responds, so the two strengths build the daily total rather than serving different conditions: the 20 mg capsule reaches the target with fewer capsules, and the 10 mg allows a gradual reduction at the end of a course. Take the schedule exactly as prescribed and do not extend the course at home.
How Isotretinoin Works
Isotretinoin is a vitamin A derivative that shrinks the sebaceous glands and reduces the oil and skin-cell shedding that block pores, so acne improves from the inside. The same mechanism explains the dryness of lips, eyes, nose and skin, and it also affects the liver and blood fats, which is why blood tests are checked before and during treatment; high fat levels may need a statin such as Atorlip.
Dosage & Administration
Capsules are swallowed whole with water, twice a day with meals, never chewed, crushed or sucked, and no extra doses if spots flare. Isotretinoin must not be used in anyone pregnant or who may become pregnant: it causes pregnancy loss and birth defects, so pregnancy is ruled out before starting and two forms of contraception are required during treatment and afterwards. Tell your doctor about depression, mental illness or suicide attempts in the family, and about diabetes, asthma, osteoporosis or high triglycerides. Stop and seek help for severe headache, blurred vision, seizures, stomach or chest pain, difficulty swallowing, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, muscle weakness, ringing in the ears, peeling skin, sores or fever. Liver support such as LIV.52, may be discussed with the prescriber, but it does not replace blood monitoring.

FAQ
Before you ask
Questions, answered
It treats severe nodular acne that has not improved with other treatments, including antibiotics. It is a strong medicine for a specific problem rather than something to use for mild spots, and a course usually lasts four to five months. It does not cure acne in everyone and some patients need a second course later.
Capsules are taken twice a day with meals, swallowed whole with a full glass of liquid, and never chewed, crushed or sucked. Your dose is set by body weight and response, and blood tests are checked during treatment. Do not take extra capsules if your skin flares, and do not extend the course on your own.
Dryness is expected: red, cracked lips, dry skin, eyes, mouth and nose, nosebleeds, peeling palms and soles, nail changes, slower healing, bleeding gums and hair changes. Stop and seek help for severe headache, blurred vision, seizures, stomach or chest pain, difficulty swallowing, yellowing of the skin or eyes, dark urine, muscle weakness, ringing in the ears, peeling or blistering skin, sores in the mouth or eyes, or fever.
No. Isotretinoin must not be taken by anyone who is pregnant or who may become pregnant. It causes pregnancy loss and serious birth defects. Pregnancy is ruled out before starting and two forms of contraception are used during treatment and for a period afterwards, unless the patient is not sexually active with a male partner.
It can. Mood changes, depression and thoughts of self-harm have been reported, so tell your doctor if you or your family have had depression, mental illness or suicide attempts. Blood tests check the liver and blood fats, because isotretinoin can raise triglycerides and affect the liver; high levels before treatment need to be discussed first.
A typical course runs four to five months, with the dose adjusted along the way. Acne often worsens briefly at the start before it improves, and dryness lasts for the whole course. Do not stop or restart treatment without talking to the prescriber, and keep the follow-up appointments for blood tests.
Isotroin 10 mg and 20 mg, 30 capsules per pack, are stocked here and international shipping is available at checkout. Isotretinoin is a prescription medicine in most countries and is subject to strict pregnancy-prevention programmes, so it must be used under medical supervision with the required tests.
