Product overview

Septilin - Polyherbal Immunomodulator Tablets, Pack of 60

Septilin is a Himalaya herbal tablet, 60 tablets per pack. It combines Berberis aristata, Thermopsis lanceolata, Eclipta prostrata, Mentha piperita and Tinospora cordifolia (Guduchi). The manufacturer presents it as immunomodulating and expectorant support in respiratory and allergic conditions, and as an add-on to anti-infective treatment, not a replacement for it. Where sneezing and a runny nose dominate, doctors reach for an antihistamine such as Desloratadine first.

  • 60 tablets per pack, 260 mg of herbal extract blend per tablet
  • Five herbal extracts, including Tinospora cordifolia and Berberis aristata
  • Marketed for respiratory support - it is not an antibiotic
  • Ships internationally from the supplier warehouse

How Septilin Works

Septilin is a mixture of plant extracts, not a single molecule. Tinospora cordifolia is described as an immunomodulator, Berberis aristata contains berberine, an alkaloid with antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity in test-tube studies, and Thermopsis lanceolata is used as an expectorant that loosens bronchial mucus. Where thick mucus is the problem, a prescriber may prefer an expectorant such as Ambroxol or a mucolytic such as Acetylcysteine, whose action on sputum is much better characterised. Test-tube activity does not prove that a tablet clears an infection in a person, and most clinical reports come from small studies, some run by the manufacturer, so the evidence is limited.

Dosage & Administration

The usual adult dose is 2 tablets twice daily until symptoms ease, then 1 tablet twice daily as maintenance, or as your doctor directs. Children commonly take 1 tablet twice daily, after meals. If you miss a dose, take it when you remember, and never double up. If symptoms do not settle within a few days, or you develop fever, chest pain or shortness of breath, seek medical assessment - a bacterial infection may need an antibiotic. Wheeze is assessed with a prescribed reliever inhaler such as Salbutamol, not with a herbal tablet.

FAQ

Before you ask

Questions, answered

The manufacturer presents it for symptomatic support in respiratory and ENT infections such as tonsillitis, pharyngitis, bronchitis, sinusitis and otitis media, for allergic conditions of the throat and nose, and as an add-on to prescribed anti-infective treatment. It is a herbal preparation, so it supports the body's own defences rather than attacking an infection directly.

No. Septilin is a herbal extract blend, not an antibiotic, and it does not kill bacteria or replace a prescribed antibacterial medicine. Laboratory tests show some antimicrobial activity in a dish, but that is not the same as treating a patient. For a confirmed bacterial infection, such as strep throat or a chest infection, a prescribed antibiotic is still needed.

Published summaries report it as generally well tolerated, and some pharmacy listings state that no side effects have been recorded. Mild stomach upset, nausea or a skin reaction can still occur. Tinospora cordifolia, one of the ingredients, has been linked to rare cases of liver injury that appear idiosyncratic. Stop and see a doctor if you develop yellowing of the eyes, dark urine or unusual tiredness.

The manufacturer's dosing is 2 tablets twice daily while symptoms last, then 1 tablet twice daily as maintenance, or as your doctor directs. Children are usually given 1 tablet twice daily with water after meals. If you miss a dose, take it when you remember and never double the dose.

Herbal extracts can interact with prescription medicines, so tell your doctor about everything you take. Berberine, found in Berberis aristata, may alter the blood levels of some drugs and can add to the effects of medicines for diabetes, high blood pressure and blood clotting. Tinospora cordifolia acts on the immune system, so people on immunosuppressant treatment should ask their specialist first.

No specific interaction between Septilin and alcohol is documented on the product label. That said, alcohol can worsen inflammation and mucus production in the throat and airways and may slow your recovery, and traditional practice advises keeping it to a minimum during herbal treatment. If you take other medicines that react with alcohol, ask your doctor or pharmacist first.

Yes, the 60-tablet pack is stocked here and international shipping is available at checkout. Septilin is sold as an over-the-counter herbal product in most countries, but supplement rules vary by country, so check local regulations before ordering.
